WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s soccer team took a narrow 2-1 loss to Navy on Friday afternoon in the team’s first Patriot League contest of the season. Both teams created solid scoring chances in the first half, but the Crusaders managed to outshoot the Midshipmen 6-4. Holy Cross broke the scoreless tie in the 42nd minute of play, as freshman Jenna Barnes scored with a low shot after a lead pass from senior Caitlin Harty. The Crusaders led Navy 1-0 at halftime.

The Midshipmen responded in the 55th minute, as Meghan Hegarty scored with a header off a corner kick opportunity. Navy then took its first lead of the game in the 60th minute, as Liza Harris scored with a similar play off a corner kick to make it a 2-1 game. The Crusaders posted a pair of shots on goal in the second half, but were unable to find a tying goal late in the game.

  • Sophomore Caroline Cashion made three saves In net for Holy Cross.
  • Sydney Fortson stopped five shots on goal for the Midshipmen
