Men's Cross Country Takes Ninth and 14th in Two Meets
The men's cross country team raced in the National Catholic Championships and the UMass Dartmouth Cross Country Invitational this past weekend.
Friday, Sept. 18, the Crusaders placed ninth in the five mile run at the National Catholic Championships in Notre Dame, Ind. Dayton finished first overall (41 points) followed by Notre Dame (44 points), Marquette (77 points), Duquesne (88 points), Canisius (106 points), Saint Louis (148 points), DePaul (205 points), Mount St. Mary's (240 points), Holy Cross (244 points), Detroit Mercy (279 points) and St. Bonaventure (299 points).
Sophomore Bobby Tuzzio finished at the top for the Crusaders and 33rd overall with a time of 26:36.6. Junior Joseph Prunty was right behind in 36th place with a time of 26:39.7. Sophomore Alex Campagna finished 63rd overall with a time of 28:04.8, and senior Alec Hilton recorded a time of 28:12.7 and finished 65th overall.
At the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, the Crusaders finished 14th overall out of 40 programs. UMass Lowell placed first overall followed by Brandeis and Salisbury in second and third.
In the 8k race, junior Matthew Silas finished at the top for the Crusaders with a time of 27:29 in 84th place. Senior Thomas Kalantzakos was right behind Silas and finished in 90th place with a time of 27:41.
The Crusaders will travel to Bethlehem, Pa. for the Paul Short Invitational Friday, Sept. 29.
