ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Holy Cross men’s soccer team tied at Navy, 1-1 on Saturday, Sept. 23 in Annapolis, Md in its Patriot League opener. The Crusaders move to 2-4-2 (0-0-1 PL), while the Midshipmen move to 1-6-1 (0-0-1 PL).
Despite falling behind, 1-0, in the first half Holy Cross’ best chance came in the 37th minute when Arno Rupp created space for himself 30-yards from goal and attempted to chip the ball over Navy’s keeper but his shot went just over the crossbar. The Midshipmen took the lead in the 43rd minute when Pirox Bahar snuck a shot past Stutz inside the 6-yard box.
In the 79th minute Holy Cross evened the score when Max Karuse put away a PK opportunity.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Max Krause is the fifth Crusader to tally a goal in the 2017 season.
The game marks the third time the Crusaders have been to overtime this season.
Holy Cross outshot Navy, 19-8 and 6-1 in shots on goal.

“I thought we competed better and harder in the second half, but we have to do better on converting on chances and I give the team credit for continuing to work hard and create chances. But ultimately we have to be more clinical in front of our goal.”
