Holy Cross to Play the ECAC

• The Holy Cross men's hockey team will host its first non-conference match-up of the year, welcoming Dartmouth to the Hart Center on Friday, Oct, 27 at 7:05 p.m.

• Then Holy Cross will hit the road for a 4:00 p.m. game at Hobey Baker Rink against Princeton on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Talking Points

• The Crusaders have played in overtime in three of their four regular season games thus far.

• Scott Pooley (3-1-4) leads the Crusaders in points after a three-goal weekend. T.J. Moore also leads with four points, after recording two goals and one assist in the Bentley series.

• Eight different players recorded multi-point weekends.

• Johnny Coughlin (0-4-4) leads with helpers, posting two on Oct. 21.

• Paul Berrafato claimed Atlantic Hockey Goalie of the Week honors after posting his seventh career shutout with a 27-save effort on Oct. 21.

• Holy Cross has not faced Dartmouth or Princeton since the 2015-16 season. This weekend's games will also serve as the season openers for the Ivy League teams.

• This weekend's slate of games are the first non-conference match-ups for the Crusaders.

•Holy Cross is one of only three unbeaten teams remaining. St. Cloud State and Denver have also not dropped a game.

• Of the 52 teams who played last weekend, only eight swept the weekend. Holy Cross was one of the eight.

Scouting The Big Green

• The Big Green's appearance at the Hart Center will open the team's season.

• In the 2016-17 season, Dartmouth finished with a 10-18-3 record and 7-13-2 mark in ECAC play.

•The Big Green return two of their top three scorers, Corey Kalk and Will Graber.

• Devin Buffalo played 85.7% of time in the net for Dartmouth, finishing with a .895 save percentage and 3.29 goals against average.

• The Big Green completed the season with a 16.3% conversion rate on the power play, scoring 22 goals on 135 opportunities.

• On the penalty kill, Dartmouth struggled with a 72.5% success rate.

Big Green In Exhibition

• In two exhibition games, the Big Green have scored only two goals.

• Buffalo and Adrian Clark split time in both exhibition games.

• Sophomore Daniel Warpecha scored both goals in the 2-1 exhibition win over Windsor. Warpecha tallied nine points with six goals and three assist in the 2016-17 season.

The Last Time Against Dartmouth

• The Crusaders and Big Green battled at Thompson Arena in Hanover, N.H. in 2016.

• Moore posted a two point game off of one goal and one assist.

• Danny Lopez added Holy Cross' other goal in the 5-2 loss.

Scouting The Tigers

• Princeton will also open their season against the Crusaders, having played just one exhibition game on Saturday Oct. 14 against Western Ontario.

• The Tigers finished the 2016-17 season with a 15-16-3 overall record and 8-11-3 in the ECAC.

• Four Tigers tallied at least 30 points last year, each returning to the ice for the 2017-18 season.

• Princeton averaged 3.03 goals per game and 8.26 points per game last season.

• The Princeton powerplay saw lots of success, finishing with a conversion rate of 21.1%.

• On the penalty kill, the Tigers finished with a 82.8% success rate, killing 101 of 122 penalties.

• With Colton Phinney graduating, Ben Halford is the only returning goalie to have seen time last season.

Tigers In Exhibition

• Princeton played Western Ontario in exhibition, winning 6-4.

• Liam Grande notched two goals in the exhibition.

• Halford played 11 minutes and made two saves, while junior Austin Shaw played 40 minutes and made 19 saves

The Last Time Against Princeton

• The Crusaders hosted the Tigers at the DCU Center, defeating them 4-3 on Jan. 2, 2016. Prior to this contest, the two teams had not faced each other in 28 seasons.

• Moore notched a hat-trick in the game, while Michael Laffin picked up two assists and Spencer Trapp added the game-winner.

Recapping Last Weekend

• The Crusaders swept the Bentley Falcons with a 4-3 overtime win and a 5-0 shutout win.

• Brett Mulcahy notched his first of the season 52 seconds into the overtime frame on Oct. 20 to secure the Holy Cross win.

• Moore scored 47 seconds into the game on Oct. 21, which proved to be the eventual game winner.

• Andrew Dumaresque scored his firs collegiate goal with 4:19 remaining in the second period to secure the 5-0 win.

Recapping 2016-17

• Last year, the Crusaders went 14-15-7 overall and 11-10-7 in Atlantic Hockey.

• Holy Cross ranked fourth in Atlantic Hockey in scoring offense, averaging 2.75 goals per game.

• The Crusaders ranked fifth in the league in scoring defense, allowing an average of 2.94 goals per game.

• Holy Cross finished with the league's sixth best conversion rate on the power play at 17.0%

• The Crusaders were the least penalized team in Atlantic Hockey, with 9.5 penalty minutes per game and held a 76.4% success rate on the penalty kill.

Who's Returning

• Twenty-three Crusaders return for the 2017-18 season.

• Danny Lopez led the team in points (17-16-33) and led the league in power play goals with 12.

• Four of the team's top five points leaders return.

• Paul Berrafato played 2100:32 minutes between the pipes for the Crusaders, holding a .896 save percentage in 2016-17 and enters his senior season.

Fresh Faces

• Head coach David Berard adds five to the roster for the 2017-18 season - two defensemen and three forwards.

• Frank Boie and Logan Milliken join the defensive core, each with BCHL experience.

• Andrew Dumaresque , Logan Ferguson, and Pete Kessel join the Crusader offense.

• “The five-player class provides valuable depth and competition at the forward and defense positions and enhances our style of play,” said Berard about the newcomers.

Preseason Recognition

• The Crusaders were picked sixth in the Atlantic Hockey Preseason Coaches poll with 58 points.

• Holy Cross finished the 2016-17 season in fifth place in the league (11-10-7) and with an overall record of 14-15-7.  The team finished in fourth among the league in scoring, averaging 2.75 goals per game.

'Saders in the Summer

• T.J. Moore attended the Boston Bruins development camp as one of the eight players invited who are not in the Bruins' organization.

• Moore aims to bring his NHL Development Camp experience into the 2017-18 season at Holy Cross.

Crusader Captains

• Brett Mulcahy continues at the helm of the Crusader leadership, serving as captain for the second consecutive season.

• Tommy Muratore and T.J. Moore have been named assistant captains for the second straight year.

• As a junior, Michael Laffin joins the Crusader leadership as an assistant captain.

Atlantic Hockey Team Sportsmanship Award

• In the 2016-17 season, Holy Cross was the least penalized team in Atlantic Hockey, averaging just 9.5 penalty minutes per game.

• Practicing such discipline throughout the season earned the Crusaders the 2016-17 Atlantic Hockey Team Sportsmanship Award.

• The team's 9.5 penalty minutes per game were the fourth lowest nationally.

• The Crusaders will resume Atlantic Hockey play for their first road series. Holy Cross will take on Robert Morris on Nov. 3-4 at 7:00 p.m.
