Crusaders Edged by Tigers in Road Battle

Paul Berrafato recorded 16 saves in the first period to keep it scoreless in the first period. The Tigers scored first and Logan Ferguson recorded his first collegiate goal to even the score in the second period. Princeton took back the lead just over a minute later on a delayed penalty. The Tigers extended the lead to 3-1 before Scott Pooley added the Crusaders second goal on the powerplay. Princeton capped off the game with an empty net goal with 1:25 remaining in regulation to win, 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

PU, 1-0: Princeton’s Max Veronneau found the game’s first goal on a breakaway from Reid Yochim and Derek Topatigh.

HC, 1-1: Freshman Logan Ferguson tied the game for the Crusaders in a scramble at the net from junior Spencer Trapp.

PU, 2-1: Eric Robinson took back the Tigers’ lead with a goal at 9:40 of the second from Ryan Kuffner.

PU, 3-1: The Tigers’ power play goal came with 10 minutes remaining in the second from Reid Yochim, who was assisted by Alex Riche and Derek Topatigh.

HC, 3-2: The third period was scoreless until the 13th minute when senior Scott Pooley notched his seventh goal of the season from Trapp and Tommy Muratore. Pooley has stretched his scoring streak to four games.

PU, 4-2: With less than two minutes remaining in regulation, Holy Cross pulled Berrafato to skate six-on-five. Princeton’s Jackson Cressey  tallied an empty net goal.

TALKING POINTS:

Holy Cross outshot Princeton 40-38.

Ferguson tallied his first career goal, and finished the weekend with three points after adding two assists on Friday, Oct. 27.

Pooley is riding a five-game point streak and four-game scoring streak. The senior forward has totaled seven goals in four games and eight points across his five-game streak.

Ferguson has stretched his point streak to four-games, amassing four assists and one goal for five points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Berrafato made 34 saves to Princeton’s Ryan Ferland’s 38.  

Holy Cross had two penalties to Princeton’s seven.

The Crusaders went 1-7 on power plays and the Tigers went 1-2.
