Volleyball Falls to Army, 3-1
WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Holy Cross volleyball team lost to Army West Point, 3-1 Friday night. Freshman Clare Honan led the Crusaders with 13 kills (.345 hitting percentage) and freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren recorded 21 digs to put her 72 away from breaking the program’s single-season record. Army’s Allie Strong led the Knights with 15 kills and 11 digs.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Army opened up the first set with a 10-3 lead. Kills from junior Allie Barry and freshmen Emmerson Smith and Katie Kerins brought the Crusaders back 11-7. Army kept their lead and won the set by four points, 25-21.
The second set was close between the Crusaders and the Knights. After a Holy Cross attack error, the score was tied 19-19. Barry recorded a kill on the last play and take the set, 25-22 and tie the match, 1-1.
Army came out strong in the third set and jumped to a 16-5 lead. The Knights held the Crusaders to 12 points through the second and won 25-12.
The Knights controlled the fourth set and held the Crusaders to just 10 points. Army won the fourth set, 25-10 and the match, 3-1.
The Crusaders will play their final home match Saturday, Nov. 4 at 4 p.m. against Colgate.
