BALTIMORE, Md. – The Holy Cross men’s soccer team advanced to the Patriot League Championship Game after defeating Boston University on Friday night in a penalty kick shootout. The Crusaders netted four goals in the shootout while sophomore Bobby Hurstak made a pair of saves to secure the victory.

The Terriers outshot the Crusaders in the first half 7-4, while each side registered two shots on goal in the opening 45 minutes. BU set up a strong scoring chance in the closing minutes of the half, but junior Henry Stutz made a diving save to keep it scoreless heading into halftime.

In the second half, Holy Cross made an offensive push to outshoot the Terriers 6-3 and earn a trio of penalty corners, but did not register a shot on goal. Neither side was able to find the back of the net in regulation, sending the game to overtime.

The Crusaders earned four penalty corner opportunities in extra time, but BU managed to outshoot Holy Cross 3-1. Stutz registered three saves in the second overtime period to help extend the game to penalty kicks.

Holy Cross posted a nearly perfect shootout to clinch the victory as senior Justin Carfora, senior Brad Ross and freshman Max Krause found the back of the net before senior Arno Rupp scored the game-winner. Hurstak stopped two out of three shots faced to help secure the shootout win.
