SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was defeated by No. 19 Union on Saturday night at Messa Rink, 4-2.

The Crusaders (6-6-6, 5-2-5 AHC) opened and closed the first period with a goal. Spencer Trapp scored less than two minutes into the game and Scott Pooley added to the Crusader lead with less than two minutes remaining in the first. Union tallied the go-ahead goal at 17:44 of the third period and added an empty netter to take the game, 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1-0 HC (1st, 01:54, EV): Union’s goaltender Darion Hanson wrapped the puck around the boards that made its way to the point for Spencer Trapp to pick up, uncontested. Trapp walked the blue-line and then sent a wrist shot through traffic and just under the cross bar.

2-0 HC (1st, 18:58, EV): After an offensive zone faceoff, the Holy Cross forecheck forced a Dutchmen turnover. Michael Laffin scooped up the puck along the half wall and quickly fed a wide-open Scott Pooley in the high slot. Pooley fired the puck past Hanson’s glove for his 14th of the season.

2-1 UC (2nd, 5:55, PP): Union’s Jack Adam’s collected a rebound and scored on the back post after a flurry of shots on Berrafato.

2-2 UC (2nd, 19:36, EV): After a scrum in front of Berrafato, Cole Maier backhanded the puck through traffic from the high slot.

3-2 UC (3rd, 17:44, EV): Connor Light’s shot bounced off the boards behind the net and Ryan Scarfo backhanded the puck over Berrafato’s pad on the near post.

4-2 UC (3rd, 18:45, EN): A blocked shot in the Crusader offensive zone led to a Dutchmen rush and Ryan Walker scored on the empty net.
