Four Different Goal Scorers Sends Men's Hockey Past Sacred Heart
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team defeated Sacred Heart, 4-1, at Webster Bank Arena on Friday night.
The Crusaders (7-6-6, 6-2-5 AHC) opened the first period with a goal and held the Pioneers (4-12-2, 2-8-2 AHC) to just seven shots on goal. Holy Cross followed with three goals in a little over four minutes in the second period to take a 4-0 lead heading into the final frame.
The Pioneers added a goal in the third period and skated with an extra attacker for over four minutes, but the Crusaders held their lead for two league points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
1-0 HC (1st, 2:54, EV): T.J. Moore sent the puck from the far corner to Danny Lopez in the slot. Lopez quickly redirected the puck to Kevin Darrar on the back post, who then fired a shot that Sacred Heart’s Brett Magnus got his pad on. The rebound was sent right back to the sophomore forward. Darrar then maneuvered a backhander past Magnus for his first of the year.
3-0 HC (2nd, 6:50, EV): In transition, Peter Crinella forced a turnover in the near corner and popped the puck out to a breaking Pooley at the far circle. Pooley sent the puck back across the crease to Laffin as he rushed the net. Laffin kicked the puck out to himself and sent a snap shot into the back of the net.
4-0 HC (2nd, 8:18, EV): Johnny Coughlin’s point shot gave off a rebound to Ryan Ferrill in the slot for another try at goal. Magnus turned aside Ferrill’s shot, but Mitch Collett was on the back door to lift the puck in with his backhand.
