WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team took down Niagara, 3-1, at the Hart Center on Friday night.

The Crusaders (10-8-7, 9-4-6 AHC) and the Purple Eagles (10-13-2, 9-8-2 AHC) finished the first period scoreless, despite a 10-4 lead in shots for Holy Cross. The Crusaders took the lead for the first and last time midway through the second period.

Holy Cross continued the scoring with a power play goal, to extend their lead to 2-0 before the Purple Eagles got on the board with a power play goal of their own. With just under three minutes to play, Niagara pulled its goalie for an extra skater but Holy Cross capitalized and insured the win, 3-1.


1-0 HC (2nd, 12:57, EV): Spencer Trapp settled the puck at the right point and then sent a shot into the slot through traffic that rebounded to Danny Lopez on the back door. Lopez sent the rebound home from just outside the crease on the far post.

2-0 HC (3rd, 7:06, PP): Michael Laffin and T.J. Moore worked to dig the puck out of the corner in the offensive zone and then wrapped the puck around to Danny Lopez behind the goal. Lopez sent the puck to Trapp on the point, who deked around a Niagara defender. The junior defenseman walked the puck into the slot and fired a shot past Brian Wilson’s five-hole.

2-1 NU (3rd, 13:25, PP): From the slot, Ben Sokay shot to the far post as Berrafato was screened.

3-1 HC (3rd, 18:29, EN): Michael Laffin won the defensive zone faceoff. Dalton Skelly picked up the puck from the bottom of the faceoff circle and fired the puck off the glass, out of the zone, and into the net.
