WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team was edged by Villanova, 10-7, on Monday at Kuzniewski Field.

The Crusaders (0-5) took a 2-0 lead out of the gate, scoring two free position shot goals less than one minute apart. The Wildcats (2-1) responded with a goal three minutes later before Holy Cross extended their lead once more. Villanova moved on to score four goals to take a 5-3 lead before Holy Cross struck again. The teams traded goals with under one minute to play in the first half to give Villanova a narrow margin going into the final 30 minutes, 6-5.

The Wildcats recorded two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half. Holy Cross battled back with a goal nearly half-way through the half to inch the Wildcat lead down to 8-6. Villanova continued with offensive power, scoring two more goals before Holy Cross added their final goal with five minutes to play and finish the game trailing, 10-7.

First Half | HC 5 VU 6

  • Holy Cross kicked off the scoring with consecutive free-position shots at 26:03 and 25:08 from Baker Earl and Keely Connors.
  • Villanova’s Carlye Maita scored at 21:11.
  • Kerianne Moran added her first of the night in an unassisted effort at 19:56.
  • Three Wildcats combined for four goals, to take a 5-3 lead.
  • Moran added her second goal on a free position at 6:30.
  • Jilian Swikart scored for the second time for Villanova.
  • Bryn Carroll recorded her first goal of the 2018 season with 20 seconds to play in the first half.

Second Half | HC 7 VU 10

  • Villanova kicked off the second half with two goals.
  • Riley Bergholtz added a goal at 14:42, assisted by Anna Pusey.
  • The Wildcats recorded two more goals to take a 10-6 lead.
  • Earl struck for the second time of the night, at 5:13 to cap off the Crusaders scoring.


  • Kerianne Moran picked up her second multi-goal game of the season.
  • Bryn Carroll added her first goal of the season.
  • Baker Earl scored two goals in one game for the first time in the 2018 season.


  • Holy Cross tallied 25 shots to Villanova’s 32 shots.
  • The Crusaders picked up 11 ground balls and the Wildcats grabbed 25.
  • Holy Cross’ Julia Maloney made 10 saves.


The Crusaders will travel to Stetson, for a 3:00 p.m. game on March 4.
