The Holy Cross football team will play its final home game of the 2016 season on Saturday, Oct. 22, when it faces Lehigh at 12:05 p.m. at Fitton Field. The contest between the Crusaders and the Mountain Hawks will be shown live to a national audience on the American Sports Network, and can be seen locally on NESNplus. The game can also be heard live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.

This will be Family Weekend at Holy Cross, with the Most Valuable Player of the game taking home the Dr. Edward N. Anderson Award. In addition, the senior members of the Crusader squad will be honored on the field prior to kickoff at approximately 11:50 a.m.

Holy Cross owns an overall record of 3-4 on the year, with a 1-1 mark in the Patriot League. Last week the Crusaders knocked off No. 20 Harvard 27-17, good for their first victory over a ranked opponent since 2009.

Sophomore quarterback Geoff Wade has started the last three games under center for Holy Cross, completing 52 of 79 passes for 569 yards and five touchdowns. Sophomore wide out Richie DeNicola currently leads the team in receptions with 44 for 440 yards and three touchdowns. Senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek has added 40 catches for 525 yards and five scores, senior wide out Brendan Flaherty has added 30 receptions for 273 yards and three touchdowns.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the team with 64 tackles and five tackles for loss, while senior linebacker Kyle Young has added 57 tackles, two quarterback sacks and two forced fumbles. Senior defensive end Dewayne Cameron has recorded 39 tackles with seven quarterback sacks and 11 tackles for loss, and senior defensive end Ryan Smith has totaled 23 tackles with seven quarterback sacks and one fumble recovery.

Lehigh currently stands 5-2 on the season with a 2-0 mark in Patriot League play. The Mountain Hawks are currently riding a five-game winning streak, and are coming off a dominating 35-3 victory at Georgetown last Saturday.

Senior quarterback Nick Shafnisky has led the Lehigh offense by completing 135 of 191 passes for 1,678 yards and 15 touchdowns, in addition to rushing 63 times for 177 yards and five scores. Sophomore tailback Dom Bragalone has carried the ball 125 times for 536 yards and seven touchdowns, while junior wide out Troy Pelletier has a team-best 60 receptions for 838 yards and seven scores. Defensively, senior linebacker Evan Harvey has totaled 45 tackles, two interceptions and five tackles for loss.

“Lehigh comes to town with a very explosive offense and a much improved defense,” said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore. “This is an important league game for both teams, and we expect an extremely exciting and competitive match-up.”

After the contest with Lehigh, Holy Cross hits the road to face Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 1:00 p.m.
