Men's Cross Country Takes Seventh Place At The Patriot League Championship

The Lead: Senior captain G.Matthew Greco led the way for the Holy Cross men’s cross country team for a 39th- place finish with a time of 26:43.2, as the Crusaders took seventh out of 10 teams at the Patriot League Championship in Easton, Pa. on Saturday morning.

 HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Behind Greco and finishing 44th was freshman Bobby Tuzzio, who registered a time of 27:17.4.
  • Sophomore Joseph Prunty was the next Holy Cross runner to cross the finish line, taking 46th for a time of 27:28.Two spots behind Prunty in the 48th spot was freshman Alex Campagna, who ran for a time of27:31.5, followed by junior Bryan Gallagher in 49th with a time of 27:32.7.
  • Rounding off the top seven for the Crusaders was senior captain Henry Dodge (50th; 27:32.9) and junior Bill Christ (53rd; 27:52.9).
  • Navy won the race with 23 points, as Lucas Stalnaker took first place for the Midshipmen with a time of 24:28.8.

TURNPIKE TROPHY:

  • Jeter was named the Turnpike Trophy MVP for the women’s race for her sixth place finish, crossing the finish line before any Boston University or teammate from Holy Cross runner and helping the Crusaders to a third place finish.
  • For the men’s race, Boston University’s Paul Luevano won the MVP award for his third-place finish with a time of 24:58, which was in front of all the other Terrier and Crusader runners.
  • This athletic series between the Crusaders and Terriers awards points for all head-to-head victories in both the regular season and postseason, with the Turnpike Trophy going to the school that accumulates the most points at the end of the academic year.
  • Boston University holds a 4-1 lead in the season series after the Terriers won in women’s soccer (Oct. 19), field hockey (Oct. 25), men’s soccer (Oct. 26) and men’s cross country today. The Holy Cross women’s cross country team posted the first victory for the Crusaders this season in the rivalry series.
  • The Turnpike Trophy competition continues on Oct. 30, as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will compete against each other that day. The men will play in Boston, as the women will be at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex in Worcester. For the schedule of the Turnpike Trophy games go here
