Women’s Soccer Falls To Loyola Maryland 1-0 In Season Finale

  • The Lead: The Holy Cross women’s soccer team came up short to Loyola Maryland, 1-0, in their season finale on Saturday afternoon in Worcester.

  • “The team competed hard and put itself in a great position today,” said head coach Casey Brown. “It’s unfortunate it did not go our way, but I could not be more proud of this group and the strides we have made together.”

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams battled evenly in the first half, with each side registering four shots.
  • Maddie Boccio put the Greyhounds ahead with the lone goal of the game in the 22nd minute of play, as she tapped in a rebound off a penalty kick attempt from Maddie Hart.
  • The Crusaders came out with a strong offensive push in the second half, outshooting Loyola 6-4 and allowing no shots on net.
  • Holy Cross was able to register three shots on goal in the final 45 minutes, but could not find the equalizing goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Senior goalkeeper Brooke Holle made three saves for Holy Cross.
  • Lily Andres stopped five shots in net for the Greyhounds.
  • The Crusaders outshot Loyola 10-8.
  • Freshman forward Carly Flahive led Holy Cross with three shot attempts, including two on goal.
