Women's Swimming And Diving Sets Fourth Relay Record At Patriot League Championship

The Lead:  The team of junior Katie Conners, sophomore Emma Gurchiek, senior co-captain Gina DeFloria and freshman Kayleigh Hoagland set a fourth school relay record for the Holy Cross women’s swimming and diving team with their time of 1:38.10 in the 200-yard freestyle relay at the third day of the Patriot League Championship on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Swimming the first leg in the 200-yard freestyle Conners set the school record in the 50-yard freestyle with her time of 24.05. She broke the previous standing record from the 2011 Patriot League Championship.
  • Hoagland was just 0.03 seconds off from reaching the all-time record in the 100-yard butterfly with her personal record and team-best mark of 58.68. Hoagland finished 31st overall, as Delaney Walz won the race for Navy with a time of 54.44.
  • Junior Rachel Marasco finished 26th overall for the Crusaders in the 400 IM, registering a time of 4:43.56. Her time was a personal record and season-best mark for Holy Cross. Army West Point’s Bridget Ritter won the race with her time of 4:17.82.
  • In the 200 freestyle, junior Nina Sparre took the 29th-place spot with her time of 1:57.39. Charlotte Meyer won her second event of the meet for Navy with her time of 1:47.59 in the 200-yard freestyle.
  • Swimming for 22nd place to lead the Crusaders in the 100-yard breaststroke was sophomore Caroline Body who reached a career-best mark of 1:08.09. With her time of 1:00.93, Barber Lauren of Navy won the race for this event.
  • Sparre also led the Crusaders in the 100 backstroke, recording a season-best and personal record time of 1:00.24. Sparre captured the 28th spot in the race, while Kelly Hamilton of Army West Point finished first overall with her mark of 53.58.
  • Sophomore diver Casey Sherman just missed qualifying the finals in the one-meter dive with her score of 221.95, putting her in ninth place overall in the preliminaries. Krya Tatlow of Boston University won her second diving event with her score of 289.45 in the one-meter dive.
