(Brinkley Stadium) The Lead: Senior second baseman Emily Krisanda went 3-3 at the plate for the Crusaders, but the Holy Cross softball team suffered a 13-4 setback to Seton Hall in its final day of competition at the Runnin’ Bulldog Tournament on Sunday morning.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Seton Hall amassed a 9-0 lead in the first three innings before the Crusaders responded with a four-run spurt in the bottom of the fourth inning to trim the deficit to five runs.
The Crusaders scored on four hits and an error. Freshman designated hitter Carley Boothe brought in a pair of runs on an RBI triple before junior left fielder Gabby Muniz and sophomore center fielder Jaclyn Brewstereach recorded an RBI to plate two more runners.
The Crusaders got the bases loaded in both the fifth and sixth innings, but couldn’t get the edge, as the Pirates added four more runs to secure the 13-4 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Seton Hall led in hits, 11-8.
The Pirates left six runners on base, while Holy Cross left nine.
Sophomore Olivia Sloanetook the loss for Holy Cross, pitching through the first 1.1 innings and allowing six runs (five earned).
Alannah Basile earned the win for Seton Hall, pitching through 3.1 innings and allowing two earned runs.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
With a 2-3 record, the Crusaders are off to their best start to a season in 16 years.
The Crusaders return to action on Mar. 7-12, when Holy Cross heads down to Florida for two tournaments. First the Crusaders will play four games at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational before taking on another five games at the Under Armour Showcase.
