Men's Basketball Heads To Navy For Patriot League Quarterfinals
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will begin Patriot League Tournament action when it plays at Navy in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2, at 7:00 p.m. The game between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen can be seen live on the internet through the Patriot League Network. In addition, the game can be heard live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
Holy Cross has an overall record of 15-16 and placed fifth in the Patriot League with a 9-9 mark in conference play. The Crusaders have won three of their last five games, but are coming off a 71-68 overtime loss to Boston University on Saturday. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (62.5 points per game), steals (9.4 steals per game), turnover margin (+5.0 turnovers per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.24-to-1).
Senior guard Robert Champion leads the team by averaging 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game. Senior forward Malachi Alexander has also enjoyed an outstanding season, averaging 13.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest. In addition, sophomore forward Karl Charles has added 9.4 points, 3.6 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Navy stands 15-15 overall this season and finished fourth in the Patriot League with a 10-8 record in conference action. The Midshipmen have lost their last four games, including an 82-60 setback at Bucknell on Saturday.
Junior guard Shawn Anderson leads the team by averaging 12.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Junior guard Bryce Dulin has added 9.1 points and 4.1 boards per contest, while sophomore guard Hasan Abdullah is chipping in with 9.1 points, 3.2 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game.
The winner of the Holy Cross-Navy game will move on to the Patriot League semifinals, where it will face, Army West Point or Bucknell on Sunday, March 5.
