Tess MacKay & Anna Johnson Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross senior women’s lacrosse captains Tess MacKay and Anna Johnson have earned Corvias Patriot League Weekly honors, as announced by the league office. MacKay was named the Corvias Midfielder of the Week, while Johnson was named the Corvias Defender of the Week. This is the first time in their careers that MacKay and Johnson have received a Patriot League weekly award.

The Crusaders went 2-0 on the week with a 14-5 win at Vermont on March 7 and a 11-10 victory versus Ohio State on March 11. The Crusaders are off to their best start to a season in 10 years when they were 6-2 in 2007.

MacKay, who was also named the C&R Tire Crusader of the Week, was outstanding with 10 goals and 12 points. She posted a career-best seven goals and one assist for a career-high eight points versus Vermont. The seven goals and eight points are the second-best totals by a Patriot League player this season. Then she recorded her fourth hat trick of the season and the eighth of her career in the victory versus Ohio State. She also posted an assist for four points. MacKay leads the team with 19 goals and 21 points. Her 19 goals are fifth in the Patriot League and 47th nationally. For her career, she has 68 goals and 11 assists for 79 points.

Johnson led a Crusader defense that allowed just 7.50 goals per game during the week. In the win over Vermont, she picked up two ground balls, had four draw controls and caused three turnovers. Johnson’s numbers were even more impressive against Ohio State, picking up four ground balls with eight draw controls and three caused turnovers. Johnson leads the team with 29 draw controls and 12 caused turnovers, while she is second with 22 ground balls. She is ranked third in the league in ground balls and is tied for fifth in draw controls. For her career, she has 94 ground balls, 59 draw controls and 29 caused turnovers.

The Crusaders (5-3) return to action on Saturday, March 18 at 11:05 a.m., when they host Lehigh (4-2) in the Patriot League season opener for both teams.
