(Freshman Field) The Lead: The Holy Cross softball team held a one-run lead through five innings, but Lehigh used a three-run spurt in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 4-2 game one victory at Freshman Field in the Crusaders’ doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Holy Cross took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with freshman right fielder Sydney Burrpicking up the RBI on an infield single that scored junior third baseman Mandy McCarthy.
The Crusaders held their one-run lead up until the top of the sixth inning when Lehigh tied the game at 1-1 on a hit and an error.
However, Holy Cross answered quickly in the bottom of the sixth inning to regain a 2-1 lead. Sophomore shortstop Taylor Wahler led-off the inning with a double to left center field, as senior second baseman Emily Krisandabrought her home on a RBI single to left field.
The Mountain Hawks then responded with a three-run surge on four hits and an error in the top of the seventh inning, including a RBI double hit by Carolyn Wright that scored two runs, as Lehigh captured the 4-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Wahler notched two extra-base hits and batted .667 (2-for-3) to lead Holy Cross.
Lehigh led 10-6 in hits.
Holy Cross left four runners on base, while the Mountain Hawks left 11 base runners stranded.
Sophomore pitcher Alexandra Heldtook the loss for the Crusaders, throwing a full seven innings, holding a 2.00 ERA and recording five strikeouts.
Christine Campbell pitched a complete seven innings for Lehigh, registering four strikeouts to pick up the win.

(Freshman Field) The Lead: Rachel Timberman posted five RBIs for Lehigh, as the Holy Cross softball team fell 10-1 to the Mountain Hawks in game two of the doubleheader in Worcester on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Holy Cross was down by three runs early on in the game after the Mountain Hawks scored three times on two hits in the top of the second inning.
Lehigh expanded out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning before Holy Cross responded to close the gap to four runs, using two hits and an error to trim the deficit. With McCarthy on base, junior first baseman Taylor Mosssingled up the middle before McCarthy rounded third base and crossed home plate on an infield error to make it a 5-1 game.
However, Lehigh claimed the final five runs of the game, tacking on three more in the fifth inning before driving home the last two runs in the sixth inning to secure the 10-1 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Hits were 10-6 in favor of Lehigh.
Holy Cross left eight runners on base, while the Mountain Hawks left seven.
Junior pitcher Katy Watsonthrew the first four innings for Holy Cross, allowing five earned runs to take the loss.
Emily Sorem threw for a full six innings, recording five strikeouts for the Mountain Hawks to earn the win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
McCarthy has notched at least one hit in the past 14 of 16 games played, while Wahler has recorded at least one hit in the past 12 of 14 games played.
Wahler leads the team with three triples and six doubles this season.
Holy Cross returns to Freshman Field tomorrow for its third game of the series against Lehigh at 12:05 p.m.
