Baseball Ready To Host Army West Point In Patriot League Semifinals

The Holy Cross baseball team is set to begin postseason play this weekend as the Crusaders play host to Army West Point in the Patriot League Semifinals, beginning on Saturday at 11:05 a.m.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE CRUSADERS

  • The Crusaders finished the regular season with a 19-25 record and a 12-8 mark in Patriot League play, earning the second seed in the conference tournament.
  • Freshman Austin Masel leads the Crusaders with a batting average of .321 on the season and 30 runs scored on the year. He also ranks second on the team with 25 RBIs and a .442 slugging percentage.
  • Junior Cam O'Neill leads the Crusaders with 38 runs batted in and eight home runs on the season. He has also notched 27 runs scored while posting a slugging percentage of .435.
  • Senior Anthony Critelli has also had a strong season at the plate, tying for second on the team with a .291 batting average. He led the team with a .482 slugging percentage, driving in 25 runs while scoring 23 runs and hitting nine doubles.
  • Senior Brendan King leads the Crusaders' starting rotation with a 4.19 ERA through 58.0 innings pitched. In 11 starts he has tallied 39 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .230 batting average.

FOUR EARN ALL-LEAGUE SELECTIONS

  • Four members of the Holy Cross baseball team earned spots on the 2017 All-Patriot League teams, as voted on by the coaches of the conference.
  • Critelli was named first team All-Patriot League for the third-straight season.
  • Senior George Capen, junior Thomas Russo and Masel all earned second team honors. Masel also earned the Patriot League Rookie of the Year award.

CRAVERO NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-PATRIOT LEAGUE

  • Senior pitcher Joe Cravero was named Academic All-Patriot League, as announced by the league on Friday.

CRITELLI NAMED A FINALIST FOR THE SENIOR CLASS AWARD

  • Critelli was one of 10 student-athletes in the nation to be named a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award on May 3.

SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS

  • Army West Point finished the season with a 25-29 record and a 10-10 mark in Patriot League play.
  • They concluded their Patriot League slate with a 2-2 weekend against Lehigh and went 1-2 against Hartford in their final weekend of the season.
  • Jon Rosoff led the Black Knights with a .378 batting average on the season. He tallied 43 runs scored while notching 35 RBIs.
  • Jacob Carte leads Army's starting pitchers with a 3.95 ERA. In 43.1 innings pitched, he has tallied 31 strikeouts.
  • Head coach Jim Foster is in his first season with the Black Knights.
