Three Crusaders Compete At Mass. Amateur Championship
WORCESTER, Mass. – Three members of the Holy Cross men’s golf team competed in the Massachusetts Amateur Championship this week. Junior Jake Peer along with sophomores Joe Brosseau and Drew Gerety qualified to compete in the tournament. The event took place on July 10-14 at the Charles River Country Club in Newton Centre, Mass.
In order to qualify for the championship, athletes needed to advance past a qualifying stage that took place at multiple courses over the past month. Peer and Gerety registered round scores of 74 and 75, respectively, at the Bear Hill Golf Course on May 30 where the top score of the day was 73. Brosseau qualified by posting a score of 76 at the Willowbend Country Club on June 5.
All three Crusaders competed in the first two rounds of stroke play on July 10-11. Brosseau led the Crusaders with a two-day score of 155 after posting round scores of 75 and 80. Peer was closely behind at 156 after scoring 81 and 75. Gerety rounded out the group by scoring a 163 after posting round scores of 83 and 80. The athletes that qualified for the remaining rounds competed in head-to-head competitions to determine the overall winner.
