Sophia Agostinelli To Play Professional Women's Hockey

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross women’s lacrosse Class of 2015 graduate Sophia Agostinelli signed a professional contract with the Connecticut Whale of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) on Sept. 12. 

While at Holy Cross, Agostinelli was a four-year member of the women’s lacrosse team. As a defender, Agostinelli played in 57 games and started in 54. The defender caused 60 turnovers in her career as a Crusader, ranking 6th all-time in at Holy Cross.  She collected a career-total of 69 ground balls.

Agostinelli has previously played professional women’s hockey abroad, skating for the Hanover Lady Scorpions of Germany’s Frauen-Bundesliga in the 2015-16 season. She will play for the Connecticut Whale as a center in the 2017-18 season. The NWHL enters its third season as a professional women's hockey league and has four teams in the Northeast: the Buffalo Beauts, Boston Pride, Connecticut Whale, and New York Riviters.
