WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team lost to Army West Point in straight sets Sunday afternoon. Junior middle hitter Allie Barry led the Crusaders with six kills. Freshmen Clare Honan and Emmerson Smith and junior Kristen Somerville all tallied five kills each. Freshman setter Kathleen Philo recorded 22 assists. Army's Carolyn Bockrath and Vanessa Wesley led the Black Knights with 13 kills each. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With the first set tied 8-8, freshman outside hitter Renée LeBlanc took the Crusaders up one point after a kill. The Black Knights then took a 19-14 lead after a kill by Vanessa Wesley. Army was able to control the rest of the set and won 25-17.

  • The Black Knights start the second set strong and jumped to a 15-4 lead. Army then captured the second set 25-13.

  • Holy Cross came back from being down seven to cut the lead to two points with Army up 17-15. Army went on a 5-0 run to finish the set and win the match 3-0. 

UP NEXT 

Holy Cross will travel to Baltimore, Md., to face Loyola (Md.) on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 p.m.
