Men's Basketball Set For Season Opener At Sacred Heart
The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will begin the 2017-2018 campaign when it travels to Sacred Heart for a 6:00 p.m. game on Friday, Nov. 10. The contest can be seen online through NEC Front Row, and will also air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.
The Crusaders are entering their third year under head coach Bill Carmody, and are coming off a 2016-2017 season in which they went 15-17 overall and placed fifth in the Patriot League with a 9-9 mark in conference games. Junior forward Karl Charles returns after averaging 9.4 points, 3.7 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest last season. Junior guard Patrick Benzan is also back after putting up 7.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Other key returning players include junior forward Jehyve Floyd (71 points, 51 rebounds, 25 blocks), sophomore guard Clayton Le Sann (24 points, 12 rebounds) and junior guard Matt Zignorski (24 points, 11 rebounds).
Sacred Heart is coming off a 2016-2017 season in which it went 13-19 overall and finished eighth in the Northeast Conference with an 8-10 record. The Pioneers will be led by senior forward Joseph Lopez, who averaged 13.2 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last year while hitting 56.5 percent of his field goal attempts. Junior guard Sean Hoehn is also back after putting up 8.0 points and 3.1 assists in 2016-2017.
After the contest at Sacred Heart, Holy Cross will play its home opener against Harvard on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 7:05 p.m.
