WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team added impact player Austin Jones to its 2018 roster. The Crusaders have partnered with Team IMPACT, a national non-profit that connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses to local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
Austin Jones is a 10-year-old recruit from Northborough, Mass. who was diagnosed in 2011 with PTLD Burkitt Lymphoma. Jones is a top recruit who became an official member of the men’s lacrosse team through Team IMPACT. Jones signed his letter of intent and fielded questions from the press on Jan. 10, 2018.
“I just feel really happy. I feel really proud,” said the 10-year-old on his experience and becoming a member of the Crusader lacrosse team. “I am really excited to be on your team!”
After signing his letter of intent and taking questions, Jones was presented with a Holy Cross lacrosse jersey and apparel. He then took a picture with his new team.
Head coach Judd Lattimore said, “He is the toughest guy in the room right now, and he’s a guy that makes us all want to do things the right way.”
“The press conference was an absolute success, and we couldn’t be any happier to have a kid like Austin join our team. Not only is Austin a fun, smart, polite, and special kid to us, the biggest thing about Austin is his family and all of the support they have raised and have for him,” said junior and team advocate Evan Kachris. “The press conference was the official start to the long relationship with Austin and Holy Cross men’s lacrosse. Austin has already taught us what it means to be tough with the way he goes through everything in the hospital and with cancer. He always has a smile on his face. We hope to get a lot out of Austin being on our team from his motivation and toughness, as we also hope he can enjoy coming to games, practices, and being part of the team!”
