Women's Rowing Winter Training Trip Blog: Day 1
TAMPA, Fla. - The Holy Cross women’s rowing team started its winter training trip in Tampa, Fla. on Jan. 15. Different members of the team will be blogging about the experience until departing on Jan. 20. First, Elizabeth Keleher, a freshman from Medfield, Mass. remarks on the opening day of the trip:
"Day one of training was not only fun but great to get right back into the swing of things. It is amazing how quickly the flow of taking strokes on the water comes back. We took to Tampa Bay bypass for our first water practice since the fall!
We are keeping an eye out for alligators, watch out, it's feeding season! When we aren't focusing on rowing, the team was keeping an eye out for a glimpse of the local wildlife!
Within minutes both our returning varsity and novice rowers were getting the rhythm back and moving the boat through the cool blue Florida water! Knowing that not everything about a stroke will click immediately, we were all patient, but after the first morning practice, we were all pleased with our progress!
Our first morning practice was a tad chilly, almost like we were in Worcester. But we didn't mind as we remembered the cooler it is, the less likely an alligator will attack! Right after lunch the sun was out and we were loving it!
And talking about food, University of Tampa's is very yummy! After a filling and much needed meal, we took a team trip to Walmart, and had a blast! And of course our team trip wouldn't be complete without team bonding! From mafia to watching silly reality shows, night one was one to remember! It has only been 24 hours, but the work we put in and the memories we have made with our team will payoff big time in our upcoming seasons!”
