WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s hockey team was edged by RIT, 3-2, with a late Tiger goal.

The Tigers (10-13-2, 9-9-1 AHC) opened the scoring and held the Crusaders (11-10-7, 10-6-6 AHC) scoreless in the opening period. RIT added to their lead in the second period, but the Crusaders narrowed it back within one, 2-1.

Holy Cross scored with less than five minutes to play to tie the game but RIT tallied a late goal to take the lead.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1-0 RIT (1st, 5:12, EV): After an initial save from Berrafato, RIT’s Shawn Cameron wrapped the puck around for the goal.

2-0 RIT (2nd, 6:41, EV): On a three-on-one, Chase Norrish one-timed a cross zone pass from Jordan Peacock to score.

2-1 HC (2nd, 13:13, EV): Kevin Darrar broke out the puck for Scott Pooley to rush down the ice and deke an RIT defenseman, but his shot was saved by Ian Andriano. T.J. Moore quickly got ahold of the loose puck and roofed it.

2-2 HC (3rd, 14:58, EV): Dalton Skelly dumped a puck towards the slot that T.J. Moore collected and moved back out to Kevin Darrar. The sophomore forward then shot the puck across the slot into the top right corner of the goal.

3-2 RIT (3rd, 18:22, EV): On a broken rush, Jordan Peacock rushed into the Crusaders’ defensive zone and shot to the far post and past Berrafato.

TALKING POINTS

  • T.J. Moore tallied his 20th point of the season. The senior forward’s goal marks his sixth point in the last five games.
  • Paul Berrafato marked a new career-high in saves with 46.
  • Kevin Darrar tallied one goal and one assists for a four point weekend.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • RIT outshot Holy Cross, 49-28.
  • The Crusaders went 2-2 on the penalty kill.
  • Dalton Skelly led the team in blocked shots (3) for the second straight game.

HOMECOMING MVP

Kevin Darrar was named the Winter Homecoming MVP. The sophomore forward assisted on the first Holy Cross goal and scored the second goal.

Holy Cross travels to Canisius for two games on Feb. 2 and 3 in Buffalo, N.Y. The Crusaders will play at 7:35 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2 and at 4:35 p.m. on Feb. 3.
