HAMILTON, N.Y. – Will Rayman scored a game-high 22 points to lead Colgate to a 62-55 victory over the Holy Cross men’s basketball team at Cotterell Court in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament. The Crusaders conclude the season at 12-19, while the Raiders improve to 19-12 overall.

Holy Cross made 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts and 88.9 percent of its free throws on the day, while holding Colgate to 32.1 percent shooting from the floor and 23.3 percent shooting from three-point range. But the Raiders pulled down 17 offensive rebounds to lead to 15 second chance points, and also shot 20 second half free throws while the Crusaders attempted only one foul shot after the break.

Junior forward Jehyve Floyd and freshman forward Jacob Grandison both scored 14 points for Holy Cross, while freshman guard Austin Butler added 12 points.

                                                                              

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • Following the contest, Grandison was selected as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • In addition to his 14 points, he totaled seven rebounds and two assists.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Colgate started the game hot jumping out to a quick 10-2 lead after the first four and half minutes of action.
  • The Raiders eventually extended their advantage to 13 (22-9) with 8:36 left in the half, before Holy Cross scored 10 straight points to get back into the game.
  • After leading by three (26-23) at the break, Colgate increased the margin to seven points (33-26) early in the second half.
  • The Crusaders then went on a 12-4 run, reclaiming the lead (38-37) on a dunk by Floyd with 12:50 left to play.
  • The game stayed close for several minutes, and the score was tied at 48-48 with five minutes remaining.
  • Three free throws by Sean O’Brien and a three-pointer from Jordan Burns then put the Raiders up by six, and Holy Cross would get no closer than three points the rest of the way as Colgate held on for the win.

  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Floyd made six of eight shots from the floor to finish the year with a .668 field goal percentage, setting a new school single-season record.
  • With the win, the Raiders defeated the Crusaders three times in the same season for the first time ever.
