Maureen Connolly To Receive Meegan Athletic Achievement Award
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior forward Maureen Connolly, a member of the Holy Cross field hockey team, has been selected as the 2017-2018 winner of the John A. Meegan Athletic Achievement Award. Presented by the Holy Cross Varsity Club, the Meegan Award goes to a student-athlete, regardless of class, who competed in a sport other than football, baseball and basketball, and who attained outstanding achievement during his or her college career. This award is given by the club in memory of the late John A. Meegan (Class of 1939), loyal follower of all Crusader sports and esteemed treasurer of the Varsity Club from 1988 to 1996.
During the 2017 season, Connolly totaled 47 points on 19 goals and nine assists, to rank first in the Patriot League and fourth in the nation in scoring. With that performance, she broke the school single-season record for points and tied the record for goals. Over the course of her collegiate career, Connolly totaled 50 goals and 23 assists for 123 points in 74 games played. She ranks second all-time at Holy Cross in career goals and points, and fourth in assists.
A three-time first team All-Patriot League selection, Connolly was also named All-Northeast Region three times. In addition, she earned Academic All-Patriot League honors twice and was selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll three times.
Connolly will be presented with the Meegan Award at the 63rd annual Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame Dinner & Ceremonial Banquet, to be held on Saturday, April 28, in the Hogan Campus Center. Tickets are still available for the event for only $65.00, and can be purchased by clicking here.
