Women's Rowing Adds Two to Class of 2022

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s rowing head coach Patrick Diggins announced the addition of two more signees for the class of 2022. The 2018-19 freshman class will consist of seven members. The program welcomes Shea Kirby and Allie Russo to the class of 2022.

 

“We’re excited to welcome Shea and Allie to our Class of 2022,” said Diggins about the newcomers. “Their experience, athleticism, and competitive spirit round out a great incoming class.

 

Here is a look at the incoming class:

Julia Anthony 5-9 Amherst, N.Y.
Anne Comcowich 5-11 Hopkinton, Mass.
Shea Kirby 5-7 Long Grove, Ill.
Mae Provost 5-10 Feeding Hills, Mass.
Grace Rett 5-7 Uxbridge, Mass.
Allie Russo 5-0 Garden City, N.Y.
Hannah Strom 5-9 Marion, Mass. 

  

Allie Russo:

Why I chose Holy Cross: “I chose Holy Cross because of its stellar academic reputation, warm community, and the family-like quality, both the team and the school have,” said Russo. “I was inspired by the dedication and the enthusiasm I witnessed when I met the girls on the team. Holy Cross has been my top choice since I first visited it three years ago and I’m very excited to attend in the fall. I can’t wait to become a Crusader!”

  • A seven-season member of the varsity rowing team under head coach Gary Beekman as a coxswain
  • Ran four years on the varsity winter track team under head coach Robert Schuler
  • Captained the track team in the 2017-18 season

Shea Kirby:

Why I chose Holy Cross: “Holy Cross was the last school I visited and as soon as I stepped on campus I knew it was where I belonged,” said Kirby.  “With a tight knit community and a sense of family combined with strong academics and division I athletics, Holy Cross is everything I've been looking for in a college.” 

  • Rowed for North Suburban Crew under head coach Mollie Mason
  • Captained the team in the 2017 and 2018 seasons
  • Led the team to a second place Novice Women’s Chicago Indoor Rowing Championship
  • Placed fifth overall in the Chicago Indoor Rowing Championship
  • Ran four seasons on the varsity cross country team under head coach Maureen LeVanti
  • Led her team to consecutive conference championships and regional champions ships in 2016 and 2017
  • Guided her team to three State qualifiers (2015, 2016, 2017)
