Volleyball Set for Three Matches in Dog Pound Challenge

STORRS, Conn. - The Holy Cross volleyball team is set for the last tournament of the season hosted by UConn starting Friday, Sept. 14. The Crusaders will take on the Huskies first at 12:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with St. John's at 4 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 15, Holy Cross will face Rutgers at 10 a.m.
NOTES ON THE CRUSADERS:
Holy Cross is 1-9 on the season and clinched the first win of the season against George Washington, sweeping the Colonials, 3-0.
Sophomore Katie Kerins leads the team with 81 kills through 10 matches. Kerins was named to the Blackbird Invitational All-Tournament team for play through Sept. 7-8. Sophomore Rachel Harding recorded two double-doubles in the same day against LIU Brooklyn and George Washington.
SCOUTING THE HUSKIES:
UConn will host the Dog Pound Challenge and comes into the weekend with a 6-4 record. The Huskies went 1-2 on Sept. 7-8 at the Depaul Invitational after defeating Depaul and losing to Florida Atlantic and Purdue Fort Wayne.
TAKING ON THE JOHNNIES:
St. John's will come into the Dog Pound Challenge 8-4 overall. The Johnnies played in the Fredonia Hotel/Holiday Inn Express SFA Invitational hosted by SF Austin. St. John's finished the three-match tournament, 1-2, beating Tennessee State and losing to SF Austin and Hofstra.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS:
Rutgers will travel to Storrs, Conn. with a 5-5 record after hosting the Rutgers Invitational and going 2-1. The Scarlet Knights defeated Howard and Navy and fell to Tulane on Sept. 7-8.
