Men's Lacrosse To Raise Money For John's Brothers At Rodman Ride For Kids
WORCESTER, Mass. - On Saturday, Sept. 23, the Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team will participate in the Rodman Ride For Kids to raise money for John’s Brothers. The Rodman Ride takes place in Foxboro and is a local gift-matching charity that focuses on social service organizations that aid local children.
The Holy Cross men’s lacrosse team has served as Big Brothers for 17 straight years. The team started John’s Brothers in honor of its teammate John Price. The team spends time with their littles at the Canterbury School’s after school program. In order to support the after school program the team needs to raise $10,000 each year, which they achieve at the Rodman Ride. Last year, the team raised just under $14,000. Over 30 members of the team will be riding in the 25 mile bike ride, and the rest will work the water stop and finish line.
In 2000, Price died suddenly, leaving his team and the Holy Cross Community too soon. Shortly before his death, Price was named a captain after his junior season. A religious studies major, Price dedicated much of his time to community service and planned on working as a lawyer in the field of human rights. In his honor, the lacrosse team started John’s Brothers, which serves each week at the Canterbury School. Every member of the team works directly with their “little” with whom they play games and tutor.
