Softball Signs Four to National Letters of Intent

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross softball head coach Jen Lapicki has announced that four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Holy Cross and compete as Crusaders. Jessie Nagel, Bailey Chavez, Erin Bengston and Kelly Nelson will join the softball program in the fall of 2018.

  • A four-year member of the varsity softball team under head coach Brandon Cosenza
  • Served as captain junior and senior year
  • Received the Rookie of the Year Award (2015) and Dolphin Award (2016, 2017)
  • Named a Scholar Athlete all four years
  • Recorded a .315 batting average (2017) and .408 obp (2017)
  • Played club softball for the SoCal Choppers under head coach Kim Ensey
  • Named to the USSSA Elite Select All American Team and MVP in the All-American All-Academic Game
  • Named the Chemistry student of the month (2016), Superintendent Honor Roll (2015-2018), Principal Honor Roll (2015-2018) and Valedictorian (2018)\

  • Played club softball for Explosion Softball

  • Currently serving as team captain
  • Named MVP (2015, 2016, 2017) and Offensive Player of the Year (2017)
  • Received All-Conference Player honors (2015, 2016, 2017) and Northern Lake County Conference Sportsmanship Award 2017
  • Set single-season home run record (22) in 2017, which is tied for third in the state of Illinois, and single-season RBI record (70) in 2017
  • Played club softball for the Chicago Cheetahs
  • Received the Scholar Athlete Award (2015, 2016, 2017) and member of the National Honor Society (2016, 2017, 2018)

  • Named team MVP (2015, 2016, 2017), 2017 Boston Globe D2 Player of the Year
  • Received the 2017 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year
  • Named to the Boston Herald All-Scholastic Team and Boston Globe All-Scholastic Team in 2015, 2016 and 2017, USA Today Softball All-American 2nd Team, 2015-2017 Sun Chronicle All-Scholastic, 2015-2017 Taunton Gazette All-Scholastic and 2017 Taunton Gazette Softball Player of the Year.
  • Recorded a 64-7 record overall, a 0.46 ERA, 499 IP, 1,012 Ks, 39 shutouts, 13 No-hitters and 7 perfect games
  • Batted in 74 games with a .383 average, 97 hits and 63 RBIs
