WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior forward Karl Charles totaled 16 points, five assists, three rebounds and three steals, but the Holy Cross men’s basketball team was defeated by Lehigh 71-67 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders fall to 7-15 on the season and 4-7 in the Patriot League with the loss, while the Mountain Hawks improve to 9-13 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Lehigh held a 35-33 lead at halftime, before opening the second half with a 16-2 run to take a commanding 16-point lead (51-35). The Mountain Hawks eventually led by as many as 19 points (61-42 with nine minutes remaining), before Holy Cross used a 13-2 spurt to get back into the game.

Lehigh was still up by 12 (67-55) with four minutes left, when Holy Cross scored 10 straight points to make it a two-point game (67-65). The Crusaders had the ball down by two with less than 30 seconds to play, but a three-point attempt by freshman guard Caleb Green was off the mark and the Mountain Hawks went on to hit all four of their free throws in the final 10 seconds to hold on for the victory.

                                                                                   

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • Following the contest, junior forward Jehyve Floyd was selected as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • Floyd totaled 15 points, nine rebounds, six blocked shots, four assists and two steals, while making all seven of his field goal attempts.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Holy Cross made 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts on the night, but only hit 30.8 percent of its shots from three-point range.
  • Lehigh was able to connect on 47.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 52.4 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Freshman forward Jacob Grandison recorded 13 points and six rebounds, while freshman guard Austin Butler added 12 points, four assists and two rebounds.
  • The Mountain Hawks were led by Jordan Cohen with 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and two assists.

  

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • Floyd set a new career high with four assists, while tying his career high of six blocks.
  • The Crusaders eight total blocks as a team tied their season best.
