Crusaders Fall To Bucknell

  • The Lead: Sophomore guard Patrick Benzan tied his career high by scoring 15 points, but the Holy Cross men’s basketball team was defeated by Bucknell 68-49 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex.

 

MAN OF THE MATCH PRESENTED BY THE UNITED STATES MARINES:

  • After the game, Benzan was selected as the United States Marines Man of the Match.
  • He hit six of seven field goal attempts on the afternoon, including both of his shots from three-point range.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • The Crusaders made just 37.5 percent of their shots from the floor, while the Bison knocked down 52.9 percent of their field goal attempts.
  • Bucknell also held a 41-21 rebounding advantage.
  • Sophomore forward Karl Charles finished the day with 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.
  • Nana Foulland led the Bison with 17 points and eight rebounds.

 

POSTGAME PRESS CONFERENCE:

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The game was close early on, with Bucknell holding a 14-10 advantage after the first nine minutes of play.
  • The Bison then went on an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to extend their lead to 12 points (25-13).
  • Holy Cross was able to close to within five points (27-22) late in the half, before Bucknell took a 34-26 advantage into the locker room.
  • The Bucknell lead stayed between seven and 12 points early in the second half, and stood at 42-33 with 12:43 left to play.
  • Bucknell then used an 11-2 spurt to go in front by 18 (53-35) and put the game away.
  • The Bison would lead by as many as 21 points in the closing minutes, before finally posting a 19-point victory.

  • Holy Cross returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 11, when it plays host to Lafayette at 7:05 p.m. The Holy Cross-Lafayette game will be shown live on the American Sports Network (NESNplus in New England).
