Women's Soccer Earns 1-0 Victory Over Hartford

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s soccer team defeated Hartford by a score of 1-0 on Thursday night at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium. The Hawks put together a strong first half, creating a couple scoring chances early on in the game. Despite Hartford outshooting the Crusaders 6-4 in the first 45 minutes, the Hawks were held scoreless. Sophomore Caroline Cashion made four stops for the Crusaders to help keep it tied heading into halftime.

After the Hawks notched a pair of shot attempts early on, the Crusaders turned the momentum in their favor by earning a corner. In the 60th minute, senior Emily George sent the ball into the box off the corner, and junior Megan Lawlor was there to find the back of the net off a bounce. The Crusaders held Hartford to just one shot on goal during the second half, holding off the Hawks to earn their first win of the 2017 season.


  • Hartford outshot the Crusaders 12-9.
  • Cashion made five saves for the Crusaders.
  • Maia Perez made three saves in net for the Hawks.
  • Junior Ang Seslija led the Crusaders with four shot attempts, including two on goal. 


  • Lawlor’s goal was the first of her career.
  • This was the first time Holy Cross defeated Hartford since Sept. 18, 1986, when the Crusaders defeated the Hawks 1-0 in Worcester.


  • The Crusaders return to action Thursday, Aug. 31. as they host Maine at the Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium at the Luth Athletic Complex at 7:05 p.m.
