WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman forward Jacob Grandison hit a pair of three-point field goals on back-to-back possessions in the final two minutes, as the Holy Cross men’s basketball team defeated Army West Point 70-66 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex. The Crusaders improve to 5-13 on the season and 2-5 in the Patriot League with the win, while the Black Knights fall to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Army held a 64-62 lead with less than two minutes to play, before Grandison’s three-pointers put Holy Cross up 68-64 with 38.2 seconds remaining. After the Black Knights trimmed the margin to 68-66, senior guard Patrick Benzan knocked down both ends of a one-and-one with 18.9 seconds on the clock to secure the win.

The game was close early on, with the Crusaders holding a 9-8 lead at the 15:17-mark of the first half. Holy Cross then went on a 25-5 run to take a 21-point lead (34-13) with 6:25 left before the break. Army would later close out the half with a 10-2 spurt, and the Crusaders led by 11 (41-30) heading into the locker room.

Holy Cross was still up by 11 (52-41) with 11:53 remaining, when the Black Knights scored 10 straight points to make it a 52-51 game. Neither team would lead by more than four points the rest of the way, before the Crusaders eventually pulled out the victory.



  • Following the contest, junior forward Jehyve Floyd was selected as the Man of the Match presented by the United States Marines.
  • Floyd totaled 18 points, nine rebounds and four blocked shots on the night, while hitting seven of nine field goal attempts.



  • Holy Cross made 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts, 40.7 percent of its three-pointers and 75.0 percent of its free throws on the night.
  • Army was able to connect on 42.1 percent of its shots from the floor and 39.3 percent of its attempts from beyond the arc.
  • The Crusaders posted a season-low six turnovers.
  • Freshman guard Caleb Green finished with 15 points, four rebounds and two assists.
  • Junior forward Karl Charles added 11 points, five assists and two rebounds.
  • The Black Knights were led by Matt Wilson with 17 points and seven rebounds.



  • Floyd set a new career high with 18 points, while tying his career high with four blocked shots.
  • Holy Cross made 50 percent of its field goal attempts for the fifth time this season.
  • The Crusaders hit 11 three-pointers, marking the fifth time in the last 10 games they have made at least 11 treys.



  • Holy Cross returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20, when it travels to Bucknell for a 12:00 p.m. game.
