WORCESTER, Mass. - The Holy Cross volleyball team lost to the Colgate Raiders 3-0 at home Saturday night. Freshman outside hitter Renee LeBlanc led the Crusaders with a career high eight kills. Freshman middle hitter Clare Honan recorded seven kills (.333 hitting percentage). Freshman setter Kathleen Philo notched 24 assists and freshman libero Sophie VanSeveren recorded 18 digs. 


  • Colgate jumped to a 4-0 lead to start the first set, but Holy Cross came back to tie the set 10-10 after an attack error by Colgate. The Raiders led 17-12 after a Holy Cross attack error. The Crusaders fought thier way back to close the gap at 19-24, but the Raiders held on to win the first set 22-25.

  • Holy Cross took control of the second set 4-2, but Colgate came fighting back to tie the set 7-7. The set would remain even throughout play. The Raiders were able to capture the second set 25-20 in the end.

  • The third set went back and forth between the Crusaders and the Raiders. After a kill by freshman outside hitter Emmerson Smith, the Crusaders came within four points at 17-21. However, Colgate finished the set 25-19 with a kill by Jessica Lathan to win the match 3-0.


The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow Oct. 8 at 2:05 p.m. against Army at home.
