Crusaders Fall Short At Lehigh
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Holy Cross volleyball team fell to Lehigh 3-0 on Saturday, Sept. 23. The Crusaders went 0-2 in the opening Patriot League weekend. Freshman outside hitter Katie Kerins led the Crusaders against the Mountain Hawks with 11 kills and four blocks. Freshman setter Bailey Steger added 17 assists for Holy Cross.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mountain Hawks opened the first set on a 5-2 run after a service error by Holy Cross, but the Crusaders were able to come back and tie the set 10-10 after a Lehigh attack error. The Crusaders stayed within two points throughout the rest of the set, but the Mountain Hawks finished it off 25-23.
- The Crusaders started the second set strong on a 6-1 run with two kills from freshman outside hitter* Emmerson Smith. The Mountain Hawks regained the lead, however, after a kill by Julia Pressly. Lehigh held onto the lead for the rest of the set winning 25-19.
- The Crusaders worked back to tie the third set 17-17 after a block by freshman middle blocker Clare Honan and senior middle hitter Mary Mullen. With the set tied 23-23, Lehigh finished the set with two kills in a row and took the victory 3-0.
The Crusaders will return to Worcester, Mass., to host American Friday, Sept. 29 at 7:05.
