Field Hockey Announces 2017 Schedule

Holy Cross Athletics   05-23-2017

WORCESTER, Mass. – Holy Cross field hockey head coach Lindsay Jackson and director of athletics Nathan Pine have announced the team's 2017 schedule. The Crusaders are set to play in 17 matches this fall, featuring 11 non-conference games and six contests versus Patriot League opponents. The schedule includes nine matches to be played at the Hart Turf Field at the Luth Athletics Complex. The Crusaders will take on three teams that qualified for the 2016 NCAA Tournament.

“As we continue to grow the program in a positive direction, that involves us taking on challenges and varying our competitive schedule,” said Jackson. “We are excited about who we have on the schedule for this coming fall. We're ready to continue to compete against some of the best programs in the country and take on some opponents that the program has not played in recent years.”

STARTING OFF IN MASSACHUSETTS

Following three scrimmages in August, the Crusaders will begin their season on the road against 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Massachusetts on August 25. They will then host Albany in their home opener on Friday, Sept. 1 before heading to Quinnipiac on Sunday, Sept. 3.

SPENDING SEPTEMBER AT HOME

Following their game against Quinnipiac, the Crusaders will play seven of their nine remaining games in September at home. Holy Cross will host Rider on Sept. 8 and Georgetown on Sept. 10 before opening Patriot League play in Worcester on Sept. 15 when the Crusaders host Lehigh. Holy Cross will then face Temple at home on Sept. 17 before traveling to Vermont on Sept. 19. The team will return to Worcester on the 23rd to take on Patriot League foe Colgate before hosting 2016 NCAA Tournament participant Harvard on Sept. 27.

TOURNAMENT REMATCH

Holy Cross will close out September on the road, as the Crusaders travel to Washington, D.C. to take on defending Patriot League Champion American on Sept. 30. They will face the Eagles for the first time since the semifinal round of the 2016 Patriot League Tournament.

HEADING INTO OCTOBER

The Crusaders will travel to Columbia on Oct. 8 before returning home on the 13th to host Turnpike Trophy rival Boston University. The team will then play a pair of road games at Brown on Oct. 15 and Patriot League foe Bucknell on Oct. 21. Holy Cross will play its final home game of the regular season on Oct. 24 when it hosts Dartmouth before ending the season at Lafayette on the 28th.

PATRIOT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

The Patriot League Tournament is scheduled to be played on Nov. 3-4, at the site of the regular season champion. Four teams will qualify for the tournament, and face off in the semifinal round with both winners playing for the title the following day.
