Field Hockey Shuts Down Quinnipiac, 2-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross field hockey team earned its first win of the season on Sunday as the Crusaders defeated Quinnipiac 2-0 in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats put together a strong first half, outshooting the Crusaders 9-3. Despite putting seven shots on net in the first 35 minutes, Quinnipiac was unable to get a scoring chance past sophomore Marcia LaPlante.

In the second half, Holy Cross came out strong and took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute of play as senior Maureen Connolly scored an unassisted tally. The Crusaders then took a 2-0 advantage as senior Casey Considine scored in the 60th minute with a falling shot off a pass from the top of the circle by freshman Kate O'Donnell. The Bobcats tallied four shots on goal in the second half, but were unable to find the back of the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Quinnipiac outshot the Crusaders 14-11.
  • LaPlante made 11 saves in the win for Holy Cross.
  • Livy Golini stopped a pair of shots for the Bobcats. 

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • LaPlante registered the third shutout of her career, and has now tallied double-digit saves in all three games this season.
  • Connolly has now scored at least one goal in each game this year.

  • The Crusaders return to action this Friday, Sept. 8, as they host Rider in Worcester at 5:05 p.m.
