Connolly & LaPlante Earn Patriot League Weekly Honors
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Maureen Connolly and sophomore Marcia LaPlante were both honored by the Patriot League for their performance this past week. Connolly was named the conference Offensive Player of the Week, while LaPlante was named the Goalkeeper of the Week.
Connolly tallied three goals on the week to help lead the Crusaders in a pair of victories this week. She scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Vermont, then found the back of the net twice for Holy Cross as the Crusaders defeated Colgate 4-0. On the season, Connolly leads the Patriot League with 25 points and 10 goals scored. With her second goal against Colgate, she became the seventh Crusader in program history to reach 100 career points.
LaPlante backstopped Holy Cross in both shutout victories this week. She made 10 saves in the win over Vermont on the road then stopped a pair of shots to ensure the shutout over Colgate. LaPlante has now registered four shutouts on the season, and six in her career. She now has the second-best save percentage in the Patriot League at .784, and the second-most saves per game with 8.44.
The Crusaders are 2-0 in Patriot League play for the first time since 2006. Holy Cross returns to action this Wednesday, Sept. 27, as it takes on Harvard in Worcester at 6:05 p.m.
