Women's Lacrosse Falls To Lafayette

The Lead: Kirsten Wilhelmsen had four goals for the Leopards as the Holy Cross women’s lacrosse team fell to Lafayette, 13-5, in Patriot League action on Friday night at Holy Cross Field. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Lafayette had the first three goals of the game as Emma Novick had one goal and Wilhelmson scored two for the Leopards, making the score 3-0 with 22:13 left in the half.
  • The Crusaders had their first goal of the game when freshman Alexis Leighton (Garden City, N.Y.) rounded the crease and scored for Holy Cross with 18:23 left in the first half.
  • Novick responded when she posted another goal for the Leopards making the score 4-1 going into the second half.
  • In the first half, the Crusaders and the Leopards both had seven shots, Lafayette had four draw controls while Holy Cross posted two. Lafayette picked up seven ground balls to the Crusaders’ six.
  • The Leopards went on a five-goal run to open up the second half. Two goals were scored by Wilhelmsen, one from Novick, one by Amanda Case and the last was posted by Carlianne McCabe. With 11:39 left in regulation, the Leopards led the Crusaders, 9-1.
  • Senior captain Casey Drollinger (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) then had her first career goal to make the score 9-2, Leopards, with 9:46 left in the game.
  • Case then scored two unassisted goals for the Leopards and the Crusaders responded by putting two in the back of the next when sophomore Maddie Warwick (Hingham, Mass.) and junior Tess MacKay (Simsbury, Conn.) scored. With 3:46 left in the half, the score was 11-4, Leopards.
  • Jane Kirby posted a goal for Lafayette making the score 12-4 but sophomore Stephanie Ford (Summit, N.J.) notched a goal minutes later off an assist from senior captain MacKenzie Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md.).
  • Mairead Janzer managed to sneak a goal in with 11 seconds left in the game, making the final score 13-5, Leopards.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Sophomore goalie Julia Maloney (Loudonville, N.Y.) made six saves, while Anna Raymond tallied seven.
  • Lafayette posted 22 shots, while Holy Cross had 15.
  • The Leopards secured 14 draw controls to Holy Cross’ five.
  • The Crusaders picked up 16 ground balls and the Leopards recorded 12.
  • Lafayette went 5-7 on free position shots while the Crusaders went 1-2. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Drollinger recorded her first collegiate goal.
  • Warwick posted her first goal of the season.

  • The Crusaders return to action when they travel to Boston University on Wednesday, April 20 at 7:00 p.m. for a Turnpike Trophy game.
