Women's Lacrosse Announces 2018 Captains
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women’s lacrosse program has announced its team captains for the 2018 season. Junior defender Jessi Button, senior goalie Julia Maloney, and senior midfielder Kerianne Moran will lead the team as captains.
“Jessi, Kerianne and Julia are strong leaders who work very well together,” said Holy Cross head coach Amanda Belichick. “With complementary strengths, they are dynamic leaders and we are very fortunate to have them as our captains for the 2018 season.”
In the 2017 season, Jessi Button served as a captain and started in all 17 games for the Crusaders. She was tied for fifth on the team with 11 caused turnovers and recorded 17 ground balls. Throughout her career as a Crusader, she has started in every game (34) and has collected 32 ground balls. The junior defender has posted 23 caused turnovers and is an Emerging Leader in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
“I am truly honored to be named a captain of the women’s lacrosse team this year,” said junior defender Jessi Button. “I could not have gotten here without my teammates pushing me to be better each and every day. I am beyond excited for the season and know that the effort we have been putting in since the fall will take us where we want to go.”
Julia Maloney served as a captain and played in all 17 games in the 2017 season. She has totaled 2065:60 minutes in net, and recorded an 11.34 goals against average in 2017. With a .437 save percentage in 2017, Maloney helped the Crusaders to seven wins. She has posted 279 career saves, which ranks her eighth all-time in program history. Maloney led the Crusaders and ranked second in the Patriot League with 44 ground balls in the 2017 season. She is a Veteran Leader in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy.
“I am looking forward to making the most of my senior season as a captain,” said goalie Julia Maloney. “This team means so much to me and I am proud to be a captain of such a great group of teammates. I am excited for the season to start and I am confident in our ability to face tough competitors.”
A senior midfielder, Kerianne Moran joins the Crusader leadership core. She started in all 17 games for Holy Cross in 2017. Moran posted nine goals and added 15 ground balls. She scored the game-winning goal in the 11-10 victory over Ohio State on March 10. Over her career, she has played in 48 games, has recorded 45 ground balls, and recorded 29 caused turnovers.
“It feels great going into my last season as a captain, after putting in hard work over the past three years,” said senior midfielder Kerianne Moran. “Our team has a lot of depth this year and I am excited to see us succeed this season!”
The Crusaders open the 2018 season on Feb. 10 at Fairfield at 3:00 p.m. Holy Cross will open Kuzniewski Field on Feb. 21 at 6:05 p.m. against Brown.
