Laura Ryan Receives John P. Cooney Memorial Award
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior midfielder Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.), a member of the women's lacrosse team, received the John P. Cooney Memorial Award, which is presented to a senior letterwinner who has performed beyond all expectations with courage, loyalty and dedication. The award was presented at the 60th annual Holy Cross Varsity Club dinner, held at the Hogan Campus Center on Saturday, May 2.
Ryan was named first team All-Patriot League this year, after being a second team selection in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She started all 18 games this season, and led the team with 46 points and 37 goals, while she was second with nine assists. Over the course of her Holy Cross career, Ryan totaled 143 goals and 38 assists for 181 points, to go along with 202 draw controls, 135 ground balls and 92 caused turnovers. She is the only player in program history to rank in the school's career top 10 in points (fourth), goals (third), assists (eight), ground balls (seventh), draw controls (first) and caused turnovers (first).
An Academic All-Patriot League selection as a senior, she is also a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and coordinates the team's involvement with the Catholic Charities Food Pantry.
