Women's Lacrosse Concludes 2015 Season

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross women's lacrosse team (4-14 overall, 3-5 Patriot League) has concluded the 2015 season. The Crusaders qualified for the Patriot League Tournament for the fifth time in the last six seasons and the fourth straight year. This was the first time in program history that the Crusaders qualified for the tournament in four consecutive seasons.

BURNS & RYAN EARN PATRIOT LEAGUE ACCOLADES:

  • Senior captain Laura Ryan (Stirling, N.J.) and junior Jersey Burns (Salem, N.H.) each earned All-Patriot League and Patriot League All-Academic honors.
  • Ryan earned first team All-Patriot League accolades as she previously was on the second in 2012, 2013 and 2014. She is only the third player in school history to earn All-Patriot League honors four times, along with Erin Rowse (2000-2003) and Patricia Sutton (2004-2007). Burns was named to the second team for first time in her career. Both Burns and Ryan received All-Academic honors for the first time. 

RYAN HAS STELLAR CAREER:

  • Senior captain Laura Ryan is the only player in the history of the program to be in the top 10 on all six career record lists (points, goals, assists, ground balls, draw controls and caused turnovers). Ryan holds the school records for career draw controls with 202 and caused turnovers with 92. Her 202 draw controls are fourth all-time in Patriot League history and her 92 caused turnovers are sixth.
  • Ryan had 143 goals, 38 assists and 181 points for her collegiate career. She is third all-time in school history in goals, fourth in points and eighth in assists. Her 135 career ground balls are seventh.
  • This season, Ryan led the team with 37 goals, 46 points, 51 draw controls and 28 caused turnovers. Her 51 draw controls this season were fourth in school history, while her 28 caused turnovers were tied for fifth.
  • Ryan posted six hat-tricks this season and 21 for her career.

CONCILIO LED TEAM IN ASSISTS:

  • Junior Kaitlin Concilio (Ridgewood, N.J.) led the team with 19 assists this season which were tied for ninth in program history. She tallied one goal and five assists for six points as the Crusaders defeated Bucknell, 12-10 in overtime on April 4. Her five assists tied for the second most in school history. She has 48 career assists which are fourth all-time in program history. She also has 43 goals for 91 career points.

JERSEY BURNS STRONG ON DEFENSE:

  • Junior Jersey Burns led the team with 37 ground balls, while she was second with 26 caused turnovers. Her 26 caused turnovers this season were tied for sixth in program history. Burns has 45 career caused turnovers which are ninth all-time in school history.

EXTRA TIME:

  • The Crusaders played in four overtime games this season which are the most in program history. The Crusaders went 2-2 this year in overtime.

SENIOR CLASS HONORED:

  • Before the game versus Lehigh on Friday, April 17, seniors Sophia Agostinelli (Framingham, Mass.)Lissie Russert (Cincinnati, Ohio), and Laura Ryan were honored for their hard work and dedication to the program on and off the field.
  • The 2015 seniors were the first in the history of the program to qualify for the Patriot League Tournament in all four seasons. The class was a part of 30 victories and made it to the Patriot League championship game twice (2012 & 2013).   
  • Agostinelli played in 57 career games with 54 starts. This season she started in all 18 games. Her 28 caused turnovers as a junior in 2014 ranked fourth all-time in program history, while her 60 career caused turnovers are sixth. Her six caused turnovers versus Brown in 2014 tied a Patriot League record. As a junior she earned second team All-Patriot League honors.
  • Russert played in 61 career games with 43 starts. She had 23 goals and 12 assists for 35 points. She has been a strong leader and was named a captain for her senior year. As a junior she earned Patriot League Academic Honor Roll accolades. 
  • Ryan started in all 74 career games. She was a two-time captain and a four-time member of the All-Patriot League team. Ryan was a member of the Holy Cross Leadership Academy and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She earned Patriot League All-Academic honors this year and was a two-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
