The Lead: The varsity eight placed third out of 22 boats as the Holy Cross men's rowing team started its 2017 spring season at the 35th annual Murphy Cup on Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The varsity eight was second in its heat out of five boats with a time of 5:54.46 to qualify for the grand final. The Crusaders then placed third in the grand final with a time of 5:51.36. St. Joseph’s won with a time of 5:42.51, while Virginia was second with a time of 5:49.03. The Crusaders defeated Drexel (5:51.48), Temple (5:54.90) and Bates (6:01.82.).
The second varsity eight placed fifth in its heat out of five boats with a time of 6:26.99. St. Joseph’s won with a time of 6:11:85.
