Holy Cross Athletics   04-20-2016

WORCESTER, Mass. — Eleven of Holy Cross’ athletic teams have achieved a perfect score of 1,000 in the NCAA’s academic performance standard, the Academic Progress Rate (APR). These 11 teams all had a perfect multi-year APR score (based on data from the 2011-2012 through 2014-2015 school years), which tied Holy Cross for 10th in the nation out of 356 Division I schools. The Crusaders improved to 11 teams posting perfect multi-year APR scores of 1,000, up from nine teams a year ago, and saw their total exceed six schools in the Patriot League and five schools from the Ivy League.

“Student-athlete achievement in the classroom is an important source of pride to everyone associated with Holy Cross,” said Nathan Pine, director of athletics. “Our dedicated young women and men put tremendous effort into their studies and I’m thrilled to see the NCAA recognize them nationally for their achievements.”

The APR uses a series of formulas related to student-athlete retention and eligibility to measure the academic performance of all participants on teams at every Division I college and university.

The Crusader programs to post perfect multi-year APR scores were baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s cross country, women’s cross country, women’s rowing, softball, men’s swimming and diving, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis and women’s tennis.

Overall, the lowest APR for any Holy Cross team was 979, well above the NCAA’s minimum score of 930. Teams which have a four-year APR below 930 can be subject to sanctions and probation. The national average for all Division I institutions was 979.
