Men's Track And Field Announces 2016-2017 Captains
WORCESTER, Mass. – The Holy Cross men’s track and field program has announced that seniors Michael Andre (Feeding Hills, Mass.), Michael Araujo (Southbridge, Mass.), G.Matthew Greco (Lower Providence, Pa.) and William Raven (Newburyport, Mass.) will serve as its captains for the 2016-2017 season.
Andre, a mid-distance runner, led the Crusaders in the 1,500-meter run during the 2016 outdoor season with a career-best time of 3:57.70 that notched a ninth-place overall finish at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship. Also during that frame, he ran as part of the 4x800-meter relay team that recorded a team-best time of 7:34.33 at the Patriot League Indoor Championship, which posted a fourth-place finish.
As a sophomore in the 2014-2015 season, Andre ran as part of the 4x800-meter relay team that finished with a season-best time of 7:35.99 at the New England Indoor Championship.
During his freshman campaign in 2013-2014, he was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team who logged a season best-time of 7:35 at the New England Championship, and was a member of the 4,000-meter distance medley team which recorded a team season-best time of 10:16 at the Colonial Relays.
Individually, Andre also has competed in the 400, 800 and 1,000-meter runs, as well as the one-mile. He serves as a 360 Leader in the in the Holy Cross Leadership Academy, as well as a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Andre has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice during the cross country season and two times during the track and field season.
Araujo has competed in the pole vault in 29 events, including four championship meets over the course of three seasons. He cleared a career-best height of 4.40 meters at the 2016 Patriot League Outdoor Championship. Additionally, he ran a season-best 60-meter dash (7.56) at Maine during his junior year.
Araujo has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the past three seasons.
Greco has competed in six individual distance events, including the 800, 1,500, 3,000, 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, as well as the one-mile. As a sophomore in 2014-2015, he led the Crusaders with a career-best time of 32:38.99 in the 10,000-meter run at the Patriot League Outdoor Championship.
Greco also serves as a captain for the cross country team. He has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice during the cross country season and three times during the track and field season. He serves as the president of SAAC and a co-founder of the Heel the Sole initiative, which donates shoes to Veteran’s Inc.
Raven led the Crusaders during his sophomore year in the 55, 60 and 110-meter hurdles. He recorded a team-best time of 8.39 in the 55m hurdles at New Hampshire, in the 60m hurdles (8.97) for a fourth-place overall finish at the Jay Carisella Invitational and in the 110m hurdles (15.89) at the Holy Cross Invitational.
Additionally, Raven has competed in the 55, 60, 100 and 200-meter dashes, as well as the 400m hurdles and has run as a member of the 4x400m relay team. Raven has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll twice.
