Crusaders Compete At The John Thomas Terrier Classic

The Lead:  Three different Crusaders registered a personal record mark, as the Holy Cross men’s track and field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Brandon Thornhill recorded a time of 8.51 in the 60-meter hurdles, meeting the New England qualifying standards for that event. He finished 19th out of 57 finalists.
  • Senior co-captain Michael Araujo cleared a height of 4.25 meters (13-11.25) in the pole vault. Araujo’s mark ranked 10th out of 16 opponents.
  • In the 3,000-meter run, junior Bryan Gallagher reached a personal record time of 8:50.07, as he led the Crusaders, taking the 63rd-place spot out of 91 runners. Gallagher’s time was good for a team-best mark.
  • Also running well in distance events was freshman Bobby Tuzzio, who notched a personal-best time of 15:40.94 in the 5,000-meter run to lead the Crusaders with a team-best time in that event.
  • Junior Thomas Kalantzakos also hit a personal record time of 1:57.21 in the 800-meter run, as he finished 55th out of 119 runners to lead the Crusaders with a season-best time. Kalantzakos just missed the New England qualifying standards by 1.21 seconds.
  • Junior Nicholas Boire led the Crusaders in the 400-meter dash, sprinting for a season-best time of 50.54, finishing 51st out of 125 runners. Boire’s time was 0.54 seconds off from hitting the New England qualifying mark.
  • Sophomore Joseph Prunty ran the one-mile in 4:18.27 to a post a new team-leading time in that event. He finished 47th out of 175 runners.

 UP NEXT:

  • The Crusaders return to action on Feb. 4, when Holy Cross travels to Maine for an 11:00 a.m. dual meet.
